   A sacred tree (Ficus religiosa) of the Buddhists, a kind of
   fig tree which attains great size and venerable age; it lacks
   the prop roots of the banyan. See Bo tree. [Written also
   pippul tree, and pipal tree.]

        fig, bo tree, Ficus religiosa.
