   brier, hip tree, fr. (assumed) LL. acuculentus, fr. a dim. of
   L. acus needle; cf. F. aiguille needle. Cf. Aglet.] (Bot.)
   (a) A species of rose (Rosa Eglanteria), with fragrant
       foliage and flowers of various colors.
   (b) The sweetbrier (R. rubiginosa).
